Steel mill ArcelorMittal Bremen
Project planning and structural planning for the roof of the hot rolling workshop
The ArcelorMittal Bremen GmbH is part of the world's largest steel group, the ArcelorMittal-group.
The hot rolling workshop has a base of approximately 30 x 550 m and a height of approx. 27 m. The adjoining reel hall is also 30 m wide, but has only a length of 165 m and a height of 23 m. The main load bearing system of the roof is composed of roof girders with a span of 30 m and is supported by cantilever columns. The actual roofing consists of trapezium sheeting attached to roof beams crossing the girders.
ZPP INGENIEURE or the predecessor company was commissioned to prepare a concept regarding the exchange or repair of the load bearing system of the hot rolling workshops roof. The most important condition was to continue production during reconstruction.
Special focus had to be placed on securing the existing construction in the state of a supported roof girder. Therefore, the protection framework had also to be provided for securing the existing structure in terms of structural calculations.
We performed our services according to HOAI (Official Scale of Fees for Services by Architects and Engineers) in project planning in section 3 - civil engineering structures for the service phases 1-5 (basic evaluation, pre-planning, draft planning, approval planning and execution planning) as well as in the specialist planning in section 1 - structural planning for the service phases 2-6 (pre-planning, draft planning, approval planning, execution planning and preparation of the contract awarding).
Furthermore, we conducted feasibility studies and were responsible to provide the coordinator for safety and health matters according AHO issue no. 15.
