Expansion of the B 39

Project and structural planning for the tunnelling of the railway station courtyard

The urban district Neustadt an der Weinstraße takes the role of a regional centre point in the midst of the metropolitan region Rhein-Neckar. To ensure the optimal connection between the railway station surroundings and the historic city centre (medieval historic district) and a concurrent improvement of the inner-city traffic situation, a new rail-parallel guideway of the B 39 with a tunnelling of the railway station courtyard.

The complete length of the to-be-expanded routing amounts to approx. 1.400 m. Hereby included are, on both sides, the required ramp areas with retaining structures and a tunnel with a length of approx. 400 m, including operations building.

The construction measure will be processed via cut-and-cover method, with partially temporary, respectively final sealing towards the top.

In its end state, a groundwater level of about the half of the wall height has to be considered for the tunnel structure.

ZPP was commissioned with the project planning in section 3 - civil engineering structures and in section 4 - traffic installations, as well as the specialist planning in section 1 - structural planning and in section 2 - technical equipment, each for the service phases 1 and 2 (basic evaluation and pre-planning) according to HOAI (Official Scale of Fees for Services by Architects and Engineers).
