Power Plant Eemshaven

Structural verification of hydraulic structures

The new stone coal power plant Eemshaven by the RWE AG is situated in the Dutch province Groningen at the western shore of the Ems estuary, across from the German city Emden.

ZPP is commissioned with the structural verification of all structures of the complete facility, including the water structures and sheeting measures. The inspection is processed based on German norms and guidelines (compare SV-VO) whilst taking into account the specific Dutch normative prerequisites. The inspection includes the following water structures:

_Inlet structure (UPA)
Solid structure with an inlet area (width 55 m) in the wharf area and buckled layout;
structure foundation - 15 m under GOK on underwater concrete bed with pillar foundation; wharf sheet piling with reaming posts

_Cooling water pump structure (UQA)
6 chambers with flood protection function in the dyke area; solid structure founded on underwater concrete bed with pillar foundation;
burdening by harbour activities and big build-on structures (conveyor belts, cranes);
tide influence, different groundwater levels, seismic impacts, consideration of diverse construction conditions

_Discharge structure (UQQ)
Dyke-crossing solid structure with 3 chambers; founded on underwater concrete bed with pillar foundation;
tide influence, different groundwater levels, seismic impacts, consideration of diverse construction conditions

_Wharf facility (UEA):
Approx. 500 m long wharf facility (second opinion) provided by the harbour operator
