Weser-Lutter sewer
Condition assessment and planning for the strengthening and new construction of the sewer
The existing sewer „Weser-Lutter“ in the inner-city area of the City of Bielefeld has been built between 1898 and 1904 from a stream, pipe-cased with a horseshoe-shaped cross section and a sewer on top using on-site concrete and clinker brick.
ZPP INGENIEURE has been commissioned to conduct a structural survey and the evaluation of a section of the existing pipe-cased stream Weser-Lutter as well as of the waste water sewer located above. During the constructional examination of the sewer, a lack of sufficient structural stability over a length of approx. 2,0 km was detected. Hydraulic calculations also revealed that the cross-section wasn't powerful enough, when it already was in stock. Based on these results, the new construction of the sewer was decided.
ZPP INGENIEURE has been also commissioned with the planning of the civil engineering structures and the structural planning. Apart from the new construction via cut-and-cover in an existing line, rail track and street crossings in closed construction style were processed. Several special structures are required for the connection to existing throngs, the takeover of the sluicing sewer of an existing rainwater overflow tank, as well as the crossings of existing conduit structures.
The construction measure takes place in the inner city, with closely adjacent development. The concerns of the resident, as well as miscellaneous, concerned parties were discussed intensively with the client and subsequently considered in the planning process.
Apart from the professional consulting for the operator, ZPP INGENIEURE was able to support the client in PR work and in involving residents and persons affected. The state of affairs identified as well as several repair alternatives were presented and explained in politics as a basis for a decision concerning further actions.
We rendered our services according to project planning in section 3 - civil engineering structures with the service phases 1 to 9 (basic evaluation, pre-planning, draft planning, approval planning, execution planning, preparation of the contract awarding, participating in the contract awarding process, site management, project supervision/support) including the on-site construction supervision and for the specialist planning in section 1 - structural planning with service phases 1 to 6, both according to HOAI (Official Scale of Fees for Services by Architects and Engineers).
